NYX Eyeshadow Base is meant to enhance the intensity of colors and longevity of eyeshadows. These eyeshadow primer pots come in 3 shades – White, White Pearl and Skin Tone. This product promises to create a smooth canvas for eyeshadows, make them last longer on the lids and prevent fallout.
I tried the base in the shade “Skin Tone”. When I first saw it, to me it looked like a concealer for medium skin tones. It may be a bit too dark for pale skin ( I am MAC NC 42). Here’s a swatch
The texture is supposed to be creamy but it isn’t as creamy as I expected. I was expecting a melt-in cream kind of a texture – this is a little pasty though it blends reasonably well with the skin so I don’t have any major complains about this aspect. Moisturize the eyelids well before applying this product in case you have dry skin because this product isn’t very moisturizing. This primer comes in a pot so I prefer using a brush for hygiene reasons. It dries pretty quickly and provides an even base for eye shadows. It does make eye shadows last all day and reduces fall out too. It does enhance the intensity of colors too.
The eye shadows I’ve used for the swatches are Dior Eye Shadows which are very high quality and super pigmented. I guess the effect of this base would have been more evident had I used eye shadows which don’t have good color pay off but I don’t have any such eye shadows right now.
Here’s the ingredient list in case you want to check for any thing that you have a known allergy to.

I find Urban Decay Primer Potion easier to work with compared to this one. That said, this product scores higher because of its price point. Each pot costs Rs 620 in India (via Sephora outlets), $7.00 in US (available via the NYX USA website) and £6.00 in UK (available via NYX UK website). So this is a great alternative for those who want less expensive eye shadow primers that get the job done effectively. However, for Indian customers who do not have access to Sephora outlets (since these outlets are currently based only in Delhi and Mumbai ), getting this product online may work out expensive. It costs Rs 1677 via Snapdeal, $6.99 + shipping via Amazon. The best deal I saw was at Rediff Shopping – All 3 shades are currently available for Rs 2.403. Though this is not a review for the Inglot Eye Makeup Base, I’d like to mention it as an alternative. I have tried it at the Inglot store and I quite liked it. It costs Rs 500 and is available via Majorbrands. US customers can buy it via the Inglot USA website for $10.00.UK customers can buy it via the Inglot UK website for £ 8.00.
Yays!
- The product is effective in enhancing the intensity of colors and longevity of eyeshadows.
- One pot of this product will last really long – so this is a great cost effective option for those who have access to this product.
Nays!
- I wish this either came in a tube or with a brush of its own. I don’t like sticking my fingers into pots and tubs of products because of hygiene issues and it is a pain to keep using eye shadow brushes to apply the primer because I then need to clean the brush before I use it for the eye shadow – just creates more work for me 🙁
- I wish this was available online at the actual cost for Indian customers.
