MAC Heroine Lipstick
MAC Heroine Lipstick

After being released as a Limited Edition Lipstick a couple of times, Heroine is now a part of MAC’s Permanent collection. Herione has enjoyed cult classic status for a while now. The fact that it was earlier released as limited edition made it all the more desirable. I have had a weakness for purple lipsticks so I just had to have Heroine in my collection. I didn’t even swatch it at the store. I just got it home with me. Once I tried it on, I got a sense of why this lipstick is loved so much. It is such a vibrant color! It brightens up the face instantly and you hardly need to spend time doing any other makeup – just some foundation, concealer (if you need too), eyeliner (simple or winged) and mascara! I love wearing this lipstick.

You can either do a bold statement lip with it for evenings or go easy with it and tone it down by wearing a thin layer over some lip balm for day time looks.

While the color looks deep purple in the tube, on the lips there is definitely a hint of magenta. In fact it pairs well with MAC’s Magenta Lip Pencil.

All that I said about this shade was purely from the perspective of someone who loves purple and enjoys wearing purple lipsticks. Not everyone feels comfortable wearing purple lips. Therefore, while there is no doubt that this is a beautiful lipstick, I would say don’t order this online unless you are a seasoned purple lipstick wearer. Try it on when you visit MAC the next time. Try it with an open mind and get ready to step out of your comfort zone. Who knows Heroine may get you initiated into the vibrant world of purple lipsticks.

The formula of this lipstick is amazing. Though it is a matte lipstick, it is not as drying as some other matte lipsticks (like Ruby Woo). It is easy to apply, feels very comfortable on the lips. It wears well for about 6 hours and leaves behind a deep pink stain (which isn’t easy to remove).

The finish looks like satin initially because it has a bit of a sheen to it but after a while it begins to look like a matte lipstick.

Overall Heroine is a great lipstick – true to its name, it is bold, beautiful, fearless, dramatic and impossible to ignore 🙂
